Simplified maps with R
Sometimes you want to produce maps with special layouts. I especially like
maps with modified geometries, e.g. simplifying the original shapes to squares
or dots. When searching the web, I found the fantastic post Fishnets and

by Matt Strimas-Mackey, which was a huge
inspiration (by the way, don’t miss his blog, full
